This Thursday, April 18th, WeCare took our senior friends on a scenic outing to Ku-ring-gai National Park, located in Sydney’s North. Our adventure began with an exotic Thai lunch next to Australia’s oldest national park. After lunch, we journeyed through the woods by bus, soaking in nature’s bounty, before taking a ferry to one of the world’s most enchanting lakeside restaurants—Saddles Mt White, where we enjoyed exquisite desserts and robust coffee. As the sunset, we joyfully headed back to WeCare, concluding our day’s journey.
Compared to our inaugural outing, WeCare provided an even more thoughtful and personalized experience for the seniors involved. Many expressed their gratitude, amazed that despite living in Australia for over a decade, they had never discovered such stunning local scenery without WeCare’s meticulous planning. They were especially thankful for the minibus tours offered by WeCare, which not only enriched their lives but also expanded their horizons. For seniors unable to travel long distances by themselves, the WeCare minibus tours also allowed them to explore this picturesque country.
First Stop – Departure with WeCare, Savoring Thai Flavors
In the crisp Sydney autumn, WeCare’s second outing was joyously launched. With smiles of excitement, the seniors boarded the WeCare minibus, donning custom WeCare caps, and set off in the morning sun. The trip was once again safeguarded by a professional team certified in first aid, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey. To improve the seniors’ experience from the first outing, this trip included more interactive elements on the bus, such as light games and soothing music, enriching the travel experience while enjoying the landscape.
About 1.5 hours later, we arrived at Absolute Thai, a restaurant next to Ku-ring-gai National Park, known for its highly acclaimed Thai cuisine. The restaurant was chosen for its “characteristic” and “delicious” standards, and the seniors praised the flavorful Thai lunch, which greatly alleviated the fatigue of the journey. After a restful break, we re-boarded the minibus, content and satisfied, ready for the next destination.
Second Stop – Berowa Waters Public Wharf
After a half-hour drive, we reached our next scenic spot—Berowa Waters Public Wharf. On the way, we passed through the culturally rich Ku-ring-gai National Park, one of Sydney’s most historically significant national parks and Australia’s second oldest. The park is renowned for the beautiful scenery along the Hawkesbury River and the Aboriginal rock art engraved on its stones. The seniors continuously marveled at the magnificent natural landscapes and exquisite rock art, appreciating a visual feast and a direct experience of the land’s rich culture.
Berowa Waters Public Wharf, nestled deep in a valley and surrounded by the greenery of the Muogamarra Nature Reserve, holds a unique geographical position. Although a bridge could have been built for easier river crossing, residents opposed destroying the natural scenery, so the area still relies on a 24-hour ferry service, with many residents choosing to boat home themselves. We took a group photo with the seniors at the wharf, cherishing the serene beauty of the lake and mountains. After a moment of reflection, we boarded the ferry, heading to Saddles Garden Centre with deep respect and longing for nature.
Third Stop – Saddles Garden Centre
Following a delightful river journey, we arrived at our destination—Saddles Garden Centre. This elegantly arranged horticultural center not only sells a variety of plants and flowers but also features a pottery shop. Inside, there is a small lake beside which sits one of the world’s most beautiful lakeside restaurants—Saddles Mt White. Here, some seniors chose to enjoy a cup of coffee in the restaurant, basking in the autumn sun and breeze, while others, passionate about gardening, browsed the shop enthusiastically, picking their favorite plants and pottery.
As the day’s journey neared its end, WeCare prepared snacks and hot tea for the seniors to alleviate their hunger and fatigue. Everyone contentedly boarded the return vehicles, arriving back at the WeCare office around 5 PM, marking a perfect end to a wonderful day. This outing not only enriched the seniors’ life experiences but also provided them with relaxation and joy amid natural beauty.
