ABOUT THE ROLE
THE INSTRUMENT NURSE/SCRUB NURSE
Take the responsibility for establishing and maintaining the integrity, safety and efficiency of the sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
- Participating in all processes outlined in the SSC, focusing on the stages of the team ‘Time Out’ and ‘Sign Out’
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team before and during the surgical procedure
- Establish and monitor the aseptic field
- Manage the instruments and associated sterile items
- Assist the surgeon with access to instruments and supplies required to undertake the surgical procedure
- Recognise intraoperative complications or changes in the patient’s condition and responding promptly Instrumentation
THE CIRCULATING NURSE/SCOUT NURSE
To function as a mobile member of the surgical team.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
- Establish and monitor the aseptic field
- Open sterile items and equipment
- Ensure and maintain patient safety and dignity
- Anticipate the needs of the instrument nurse before and during the surgical procedure
- Work directly with the instrument nurse to support the surgical team

QUALIFICATIONS
- Current AHPRA RN license;
- Minimum one year experience;
- Valid Police Check (within three years);
- Valid WWCC;
- Blood safety certificate;
- Three Doses of COVID19 Vaccination certificate;
- Hand hygiene certificate;
- First Aid/Advance Life Support Certificate
